We are honoured to support Watergum Community in their TurtleWatch Gold Coast mission.
Watergum’s company vision is to collectively restore Australian landscapes to places of beauty, clean water, and native habitat that support our community and wildlife for generations to come. Their mission is to provide pathways for education and on-ground action that engages and inspires communities across Australia to improve our natural environment and cultivates cultural change.
Watergum and Sea World joined forces to fill the data gap on nesting turtles on the Gold Coast, not just for the appropriate authorities, but also so there will be better response and reporting of local marine strandings.
Marine turtles use both the marine and terrestrial environments to complete different stages in their life cycle, this makes them even more vulnerable to many anthropogenic threats including entanglement, marine debris, ocean pollution, poaching and illegal trade, global warming, predation from domestic animals, and boat strike, just to name a few.
If you would like to become a TurtleWatch walker, please read the information here and email them at turtlewatch@watergum.org.
